Ghanaian 800m runner Alex Amankwah believes he can lower his personal best to 1.43m this season after exiting the IAAF Championships London 2017.
Amankwah, who currently holds the national 800m record of 1:44.90m, bowed out after the heats with 1:47.56m in a slow but tactical race. Kenyan runner Emmanuel Korir took first place in 1:47.08m while Polands Michal Rozmys and Brazil’s Thiago Andre came second and third respectively with 1:47.09m and 1:47.22m.

According to him, he was hoping to make the top 3 and secure automatic qualification to the semi finals but got caught up “in a lot of jostling and fighting.”
Asked by African Athletics.com about his realistic target for the season, Alex said he wants to run 1.43m this season and is confident of achieving that aim with the training he is having.
He added that the London 2017 800m race was his first race in over a month.
