Ahead of the 25th Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games at Tamale from 4th to 20th January, 2018, Liquid Sports Ghana profiles the University of Education Winneba.

The 25th Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games will begin this weekend in Tamale and will run until 20th January.

The Games was launched at brief ceremony at the University of Professional Studies at Accra on Tuesday. Under the theme, “Ghana at 60, the role of University Sports in National Development, 9 public universities will take part in 12 sporting events from 4th to 20th January at the University of Development studies in Tamale.

Launching the event, the Acting President of GUSA, Mr. Ben Osafo said the Games are meant to facilitate and coordinate the developments of sports and physical recreational activities and organise sports competitions among institutions at all levels.

This will be third time that the University of Development Studies (UDS) will be hosting the GUSA Games, having last hosted the competition in 2008 and 2013.

Over 1500 athletes are expected to compete in football, basketball, handball, volleyball, beach volleyball, goalball, athletics tennis, table tennis, netball, badminton and hockey.

The participating universities include the University of Ghana, Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Education Winneba (UEW), University of Development Studies (UDS), University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).
