The third day of the ongoing Colleges of Education Sports Association (COESA) witnessed a competitive men’s volleyball action pitching host Ashba against the Northern zone at the Paa Joe stadium, Kumasi.

Watched by a partisan crowd that included students, officials and Principals of the Colleges, the two great rivals sold out an entertaining game that was easily one of the main highlights of the day.

The two teams gave it their best shot as the game was pushed down to the wire before the host emerged victors in three sets to two (3:2).

Ashba’s victory was made all the more remarkable because they had earlier beaten EGA (Eastern-Greater Accra) 3:0 in the early morning kick-off.

Meanwhile, the game involving Volta and Cenwest also equally witnessed close competition before Volta edged it by three sets to two.

In women’s volleyball action, Volta suffered back-to-back losses after a 3:0 defeat to the North and a 3:1 loss to EGA respectively. On the other hand, Ashba thrashed Cenwest 3:0.

The volleyball competition climaxes on Thursday with the final matches.

The 5-competing zones at the 11th COESA Games are made up of the Ashanti-Brong Ahafo zone (Ashba), Eastern-Greater Accra (Ega) zone, Central-Western (Cenwest) zone, Volta zone, and Northern zone.

The event is themed; Unearthing sports talents in the midst of pandemic: the role of Colleges of Education. About 900 male/female athletes drawn from the 5-zones of colleges of education are participating in the event which ends on Saturday.
