The Ghana Athletics Association has announced it has cancellled its Under Distance Competition which was scheduled to hold at the Paa Joe stadium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi tomorrow.

The competition was set to usher in the new season on tomorrow Friday, 29th January 2021.

According to the GAA’s Chief Executive Officer Bawah Fuseini, it was due to circumstances beyond its control. News from the grapevine suggests the development might be due to new directives by the authorities of KNUST against the spread of Covid-19.

“We have been compelled to cancelled this weekend under distance competition due to circumstances beyond our control,” Bawah Fuseini wrote.

He added, “We are sorry for any inconveniences being caused as a result of the cancellation.”

The news is a massive blow to the efforts of the GAA to restart domestic track and field competitions which grind to a halt last year following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
