Amoah, who has qualified for the 100m and 200m events at Tokyo, hit a season high at the 2020 Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational competition in Boston and his performance ranked 1st overall out of 11 races at the competition.

The African Games 4x100m gold medalist showed his intent for the new season, producing a 20.87s clocking in the 200m about two weeks ago.

In a post event interview with the Ghana Athletics Association Communications, Joe Paul, as he is affectionately called, said there is more to come.

“I have been training very very hard for moments like this. So I think it is only right that I get results like this every time I step on the track. I’m very happy about it and I know there is more to come,” Amoah told GAA Communications after the race.

Having gained national and international prominence at the 2019 African Games and the IAAF World Championships Doha 2019, Joe is aiming for further improvements at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where he hopes to go a step higher.

“On progress and preparations towards Tokyo 2020, my coach is trying to reduce the number of races I will be running this year at the NCAA so I don’t get too worn out by the time it gets to the Olympics. Our plan is still on track and we’re just hoping our plan works out,” Amoah, who also owns the national 200m outdoor record 20.08(NR) summed up.

Meanwhile, a former national 200m record holder and Rio 2016 Olympian Emmanuel Dasor came second in the same heat with Amoah, clocking 21.33s. Currently unattached, Dasor came second overall in the rankings as he works his way back to the Olympics. Dasor formerly held the national 200m indoor record of 20.89s in 2017.
